Last weekend on Friday evening we went to my family's annual Halloween party, which was great fun. After the traditional Halloween dinner, we carved jack-o-lanterns.
My aunts carved the one on the far left, Nate and I did the shark, my parents did the face in the middle, Allan and Katie did the other face that uses the stem for the nose, and my statistics major brother Ben did the oh-so-frightening bell curve on the far right.
And of course, we all dressed up in our costumes too. Austin was a pumpkin. The costume is is wearing is actually one that my mom made for my brothers when they were little. He absolutely loved wearing it.
Austin really loved the trick-or-treating this year as well. We attended a ward truck-or-treat Saturday evening. Austin mostly liked running around the parking lot in his costume as much as possible during this. He didn't quite understand the collecting candy part. When people told him to pick out some candy from their bowls, he would often grab a handful, take it out, and then put it back into the bowl instead of into his bag. When one candy distributor told him the candy was to eat, he immediately stuck his candy bar in his mouth, wrapper and all...
We also took Austin trick-or-treating down our street Thursday evening. There are very few kids on our street, and we get very few trick-or-treaters. Consequently it would seem, houses here seem to pass out lots and lots of very good candy to the few who do come. We went to three or four houses passing out full sized candy bars, all of which told Austin to pick out some for his parents too. Most other houses gave out handfuls of smaller items. Once again, Austin had a blast. He was so excited about the whole thing that he skipped and danced between houses.
