Preparations for Valentine's day (and practically every major holiday) start at least two or three days prior. Rebecca makes a huge batch of the best sugar cookies ever (confirmed by 99/100 licensed dessert consumers, the 1 being allergic to gluten) and decorates them with cute patterns, or faces, or witty phrases such as "SMILE", "PRINCE", "DON'T WORRY", "BE HAPPY", and "BITE ME"(get it?). In addition to these standard cutout cookies, she also makes a humongous cookie just for me and sometimes even does it right under my nose without me noticing. The next day she makes a batch of almond flavored, jam filled, powder-sugar topped sandwich cookies. They use a slightly different dough recipe but it's double the cookie, and just as mouth watering, and beautiful. I used to eat those store-bought, pasty white cookies with thick pink frosting when offered, but now I'm too spoiled and can't stand them.
For breakfast on valentine's day she made waffles in our new waffle iron that happens to produce heart shaped waffle pieces. After the very first waffle it stopped working though, so we had to resort to our Belgian waffle iron :(
After putting together 9 baggies and 2 plates worth of cookies with little heart shaped tags we delivered them in stealth-like secrecy to our friends, neighbors, and home teaching families who all had absolutely no idea who they were from...until reading the tag that is.
Later, we played the most romantic game ever: Racquetball. What better way is there to get your hearts racing? Seriously though, having a wife who loves racquetball and is getting pretty dang good is AWESOME.
After racquetball she continued working on the special dinner she had been planning all week. I helped with parts of it but was not supposed to know what the final product was (which is pretty hard to pull off in a kitchen as small as ours). The secretiveness just made it that much harder to wait since it was smelling SOOOOOO GOOOOOD, but it was worth it. First there was a green salad with tomatoes, mushrooms, and cucumbers. Then there was homemade french bread with the garlic butter spread, then the main dish was barbecue chicken pizza with bell peppers and red onions. I've had her homemade pizza before, but this was gourmet and it was heart-shaped! The best part, is that there are plenty of left overs!Between dinner and dessert we had a nice long break during which we attended choir practice and stake conference. Then we enjoyed some hot cook-and-serve chocolate pudding and cookies and exchanged some gifts. As usual, Rebecca went all out on a gorgeous, creative card. The tiny note was in a tiny envelope that actually worked and the flower vase had clear plastic as the glass. I can't believe what incredible (and incredibly small) things she comes up with!
To end the day, we danced to some romantic music and gave each other massages. Like I said, it was just a wonderful day with my wonderful wife!

What a wonderful valentine!
I hope my husband never reads this post! Rebecca's creativity never ceases to amaze me (and yours too, Nate, for that matter--this post was quite masterfully written). Glad you guys had such a fun day!
