Vernal Trip Part 1

We went on a trip to Vernal with my family in the middle of June. We left on Wednesday morning, June 17 and met up with the rest of my family at a park in Vernal. We then spent the afternoon in a session at the Vernal Temple. Luckily, Nate has a cousin who lives in Vernal who was willing to watch Austin for us while we were at the temple.

That evening, we ate dinner at the park and then spent the evening playing there. It was actually a really nice park, and we spent a lot of time competing with each other on the playground to see who could climb around the rock climbing and rope obstacles the fastest.

Thursday morning we headed up to Flaming Gorge Dam. We toured the dam that morning. The tour guide had just started working there and was having a hard time answering my family's questions. After all, she had a chemist, two engineers, and a statistician in our group.

It was an interesting tour though, and we enjoyed feeding the fish at the end. We decided these fish have it made. No fishing is allowed at the dam, and there are people coming through and throwing food down for the fish all the time.

That afternoon we rafted down the very calm part of the river, which was a lot of fun. Austin was actually really freaked out about everything along the way. Every time someone said  something like "paddle on the right/left," Austin would start screaming the command out as if everyone's life depended on it happening. However, even Austin seemed to really enjoy a lot of it.

It was a really beautiful ride too. The steep canyon cliffs and flowing water made for great scenery, and there was even this little waterfall along the way.

There was a nice current to swim through at the end of the ride. Nate, Katie, and my brothers all went through it. I really wanted to, but the water was so cold it just about took my breath away. I got cold just sticking my feet in it, so I decided against going through this current.
